In the context of the construction of the "EPR" type of 3rd-generation reactor, with 1,650MW of power, at Flamanville, Ponticelli is the holder of the "Auxiliary nuclear piping of the BOP" contract.
This contract comprises studying, calculating for earthquake events and installing, in particular, the cooling, back-up and fire-protection piping for the nuclear island, as well as the piping required to cool down the turbo-reactor plant's condenser in the machine room.
An 800m3 stainless steel tank was also installed as part of the contract in ½ units.
The networks are located in the galleries, the pumping station, the discharge building, the nuclear island and the machine room.
There is approximately 27,000m of piping and 350T of supports to be prefabricated in the factory and installed on site. Diameters range from 25mm to 800mm and a variety of grades of metal are utilised, including: carbon steel, carbon steel with a neoprene coating, stainless steel, dual-envelope stainless steel, alloy steel for the ASS steam line, and composite material.
Today, studies are under way, prefabrication in the Ponticelli's Bourbourg workshop (Northern department) will start in October 2008 and the on-site installation will begin in January 2009 and end in May 2011. Manpower is estimated to peak at 80 people for this project.
